I would like to introduce myself to those who don't know me. My name is Cindy Kaye and I am the Director and CEO of this organization, Starting Over Singles.
My reasons for starting a new singles group is not the ordinary reasons that other singles groups have been started. I feel there is a need for people who have been in long relationships, and now, after much time, find themselves no longer in a relationship and long for the family aspect they had. You can be separated, divorced, widowed or just in a long term relationship, like marriage, and all of a sudden find yourself in the singles world again. The singles world is not an easy place to live in if you're not used to being there. It's like being a teenager all over again and learning from scratch. It's also being torn apart from a family life and not knowing how to cope with it. Everyone who has been part of the family circle yearns for being with people during evenings, meals, weekends and especially holidays, and feels like they're the only one in the world when they're not part of one. My concept is to bring people together to make friends and to enjoy these events again.
I would like to help all these people - why - because I was there many years ago and I still can feel that pain. The longing to be with other people who have been in similar situations. To talk it out, sometimes over and over again, with people who understand. We understand. Anyone who is part of Starting Over Singles has been there. Widowed, divorced, abandoned. We want to help you feel like part of a bigger picture and we will!!
My credentials are the following: I have been divorced for many years and then in a long term relationship for many years. I have also been the President of Parents Without Partners for several years, until I was unable, through rules, to run again. During that time I've learned everything there is to being single again. I've done the work of President for a Chapter with over 800 people belonging to it, I've been the secretary, helped run children's events, kept a programming schedule together with more events then any other Chapter in the Region, gave Discussion Groups (both serious and funny), gave Orientations, headed a welcoming committee, helped with Membership, was head of the New Members Committee, Amigos and Parents Activities as well as getting Parents of Young Children active again and finding the right person to get the Widow and Widower group active again. Most of these committees helped put parties, socials, game nights, barbecues, bowling, movie nights, pool parties, Luaus, picnics and evenings dining out, etc together. I have, also, put a Newsletter together, as well as typing it and having it printed and mailed. I've done Fund Raising (not only for PWP, but for MDA, while being Manager at an ERA Real Estate Agency. I've put together monthly dances and New Years' Eve dances as well as taken phone calls for all events and just to be there for people who needed to talk. I also had a yearly holiday party for people, of all faiths, who had no where to go on Christmas. I've also been on television for Public Relations, on the News and Talk Shows. And last, but not least, I have all kinds of certificates for learning and teaching as well as counseling.
