Saturday - 7/25/09

Eleanor Rigby's was good, as usual.  Great food, great prices, great music, and most of all...  great people to spend our time with.

Saturday - 7/18/09

Tony Orlando in Concert was absolutely fantastic.  He paid respect to ALL of our veterans that were there, came into the audience while singing "Tie a Yellow Ribbon", and had thousands of people waving the lights on their cell phones during one of his songs.  There were 13,000 people there and we were in the front.  When I turned around to see how many people had their phones out I was amazed to see a sea of cell phone lights behind us!!!  I loved him as a teenager and I still do!!!  lol (That's only between you and me so don't tell anyone, okay?!)

Saturday - 07/11/09

Being the 4th of July was on the first Saturday of the month we had Bowling tonight.  We had fun as usual with Dave having the high scores in both games...  a 115 and a 125.

Wednesday - 07/08/09

June was a terrible month for the entertainment industry.  We've lost so many people who have made our lives a little bit brighter in one way or another.

Who can ever forget Ed McMahon's booming voice announcing Johnny Carson every night, or that he was the guy who delivered those giant checks from Warehouse Clearing Center to all those OTHER people!!

We also lost an angel.  In the 70's most of us females wanted to look like Farrah Faucett, or at least have her hair.  And, oh, that smile with her whiter then white teeth.  I'm also sure that most of the guys either had or wanted her poster in their room!

Then there was Gail Storm.  She was "MY Little Margie" - was she yours?  She was the girl next door whose smile everybody loved!  Some of the younger people might not know who she was, but I'll always remember that sweet face from my youth!

Who didn't know Karl Malden?  He was around forever and played so many great parts in so many movies.  Wasn't he Mr. Magoo?  If he wasn't, he should have been!

Let's not forget that louder than loud Billy Mays who tried to sell us Oxy-Clean, Orange Glow and all that other stuff.  I've got to admit that I have both of those products, but I bought them in the store, not from the t.v.  How about you?

Last, but not least - Michael Jackson.  He was around for most of our lives, if not all.  We were listening and dancing to his music through happy and sad times and we'll remember times in our lives from various songs we hear.  I never realized how much a part of my life he was.  The next time you're at a wedding or bar mitzvah listen closely to the music the DJ is playing and you'll see just how many Jackson songs get people up and dancing!  Thanks Mike!  God Bless his three children.

These were only a few of the people who passed away in June.  I'm sure at least one of them had an impact on your life.  I know they did on mine.  It doesn't even include all the sports people who left us.  Oh, now I know why we've had so much rain...  Heaven's been crying.

Saturday - 07/04/09

Happy 4th of July!!  Today we went to the sleepy beach town of Bayville.  Some of us took a walk along the beach and others spent some time sitting and talking at the ice cream shoppe.  After, we went to "The Breakers" and had dinner while watching the fireworks coming from Rye and up and down the Connecticut shore.  All in all it was a fantastic day with all the fresh salty air, great food and good company!!

Tuesday - 06/30/09

I hate this rain...  I'm starting to grow mushrooms.  My ark is almost done, the problem is how I'm going to get it out of my basement.

Sunday - 05/31/09

Both Game Nites, Bowling, The Red Lobster and the Hunan Dynasty were our goodies this past month.  Wonder what awaits us in June?

Saturday - 04/03/09

Bowling was fantastic tonight.  The ladies really stood out!  Rhonnie had a 156 in the first game and Maureen had a 147 in the first and a 133 in the second.  Great going girls!!!!

Saturday - 02/28/09

Wow - we had a good size crowd playing games and just hanging out tonight at Game Night.  Most of the group played Scrabble and cards tonight!  It's an inexpensive and fun way to spend an evening.

Sunday - 02/22/09

Let's not forget to say Happy Birthday to the Father of our Country - Happy Birthday George!!

Saturday - 02/21/09

Oh balls - billiard balls that is!!  We had a couple of tables of people playing (or at least trying to play) pool tonight.  Also, several came to just hang out.  It was a lot of fun and after most of the group went to Friendly's.

Monday - 02/16/09

I hope everyone had a historic President's Day!!

Saturday - 02/14/09

We had a nicely mixed (men and women) group tonight to celebrate Valentine's Day at Eleanor Rigby's.  We heard a fabulous band called "The Generators", who we hope to be hearing again, and everyone left with a chocolatey Valentine's present from me!!!  The food there is also fantastic and the right price.

Friday - 02/13/09

Oh, my, it's Friday the 13th!!  We got through it by having a great group and playing board games at Cosi.

Thursday - 02/12/09

All because there's a President's Day we shouldn't forget to say Happy Birthday Mr. Lincoln, on his birthday!!

Saturday - 01/31/09

Tonight we went to Viva Loco.  They had both Mexican and Italian food.  Everyone seemed to have a great time.  The place is very colorful and great for partying.  The main problem is the parking, and at a certain hour much younger people come in to party.

Saturday - 01/24/09

Starting Over Singles helped celebrate the year of the Ox tonight for the Chinese New Year.  We had a great mixed crowd and some people even remembered to wear black and red!!

Saturday - 01/17/09

Ahhhh....  the sweet sounds of Mac AND a great dinner!!!  The Davenport was fantastic, as usual.  We had a great turn out - even though it was  c o l d  outside, it was warm inside.  (Both the venue and our people!)

Sunday - 01/04/09

What a surprize to get to Orientation and find 20 people there....  20 people who didn't call!!  Only a small number had called during the week to say they were coming.  I guess it was the beginning of the year and people were ready to try something new to help change their lives in 2009.  I hope to be seeing some of those pleasant faces during this year!!

Sunday - 12/28/08

Today we celebrated the last day of Chanukah together at Boomy's.  It was 50/50 men and woman and we had a great time!

Thursday - 12/25/08

We had Christmas Dinner together at Hunan Dynasty.  All I can say is YUMMY!!

Saturday - 12/21/08

Unfortunately the weather kept us from our Holiday Dinner at the Milleridge this year.  I can't wait until this winter is over!!!

Sunday - 12/14/08

What a fun day!  Today we went to see our own SOS actor, Ray, playing Scrooge in The Christmas Carol.  Everyone that was there enjoyed themselves and we're looking forward to seeing Ray in his next theatrical assignment!  After, most of us, including Ray, went out for an enjoyable Sunday dinner.

Saturday - 12/13/08

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!  Tonight we went to Red Lobster for dinner and everyone helped me celebrate my birthday.  Again, I want to thank all of you who helped make my birthday extra special!  All of you know how tough that 21st Birthday can be (tee hee)!!!

Friday - 12/12/08

Tonight we heard the fantastic group "Tangerine" at LaFocaccia.  The lead sing used to be in the DellSatins and also sang background for Dion.  Both Don and the female singer have absolutely beautiful voices.  Those of you who haven't heard them should really come out the next time we see them.

Saturday - 11/29/08

Our two nights at Cosi this month was fun as usual.  Tonight we had a few new people who had met us at the Singles Expo.  All were nice and we're looking forward to seeing them again.

Thursday - 11/27/08

I hope everyone had a bountiful Thanksgiving.  Things were a lot different for me this year now that my Mom and Dad are both gone, but the world goes on and the circle of life keeps turning.  I spent the day with my future daughter-in-laws family.  Two single uncles and one single aunt were also there, which makes it easier for me, but the best part is spending time with my grandchildren!!

Saturday - 11/22/08

What a fun time at Who-ville!  Dinner was fantastic and so was the music.  I'm sure we'll be back.

Sunday - 11/09/08

What a great weekend!!  Even though it started a little wet, we had a fantastic time at LaFocaccia on Friday evening.  The waiter was even nice (inside joke for those who come on a regular basis).  Billiards was a rainy evening, like usual, but it was half men and half women and alot of fun.  For some reason it always seems to rain or snow on the night we have pool.  Today was beautiful and we had a yummy Chinese Linner at the Hunan Dynasty.

I look forward to seeing all your pretty and handsome faces now that the price of gas has gone down!!  Remember...  Starting Over Singles has the most events, at the lowest prices, with the happiest and friendliest people!!!  Hope to see YOU soon!

Tuesday - 11/04/08

ELECTION DAY!!  I hope you all went out and voted today.  We have a new President and we're all here to see a change in History.  Whether President Obama was your choice or not it's time to unite as a people and make our Great Country the "United States of America!"

Hopefully we'll ALL see a better economy with more people going out and that we'll soon see our sons and daughters home from the middle east.

Personally, I wasn't for either candidate, but now that we have a new President Elect I will back him all the way unless I see reasons why I shouldn't.  I certainly hope all of you do the same!  Now I think I'll go make something Red, White and Blue!!!!  (tee hee)

Monday - 11/03/08

          Tomorrow GO OUT AND VOTE!!!

Sunday - 11/02/08

What an exhausting weekend.  We spent today at the Singles Lifestyle Expo.  I really have to thank Kathy, Antoinetti and Ray for all their help.  I couldn't have done it without them.  I also would love to thank all the people who came to our Exhibit for information and to say "Hi!"  We had no winner from our 'Guess How Many Kisses & Hugs in the Jar'.  There were 264.  Our closest was Glenn H with 272, so we've decided to give him a six (6) month Membership to Starting Over Singles.  Welcome Glenn!!!

Friday - 10/31/08

"Happy Halloween!"  What a fun night to be at the Milleridge Inn.  Our waiters were dressed like waitresses, there were pink poodles and their circus trainer, Indiana Jones with his golden ark and very large snake, and lots of scary and fun costumes.  We were in the room with one of the DJ's and were able to get up and dance whenever we wanted instead of walking through other rooms to get there.  I'm looking forward to our Holiday Party already with it's warm, homey atmosphere and carollers singing ALL holiday songs.  Hope to see you all there!!

Wednesday - 10/22/08

Tonight we celebrated Octoberfest with a buffet dinner at Koenigs.  I didn't think I liked German food, but I was very much surprized with the outcome!!!  Yummo!

Sunday - 9/14/08

What a great day to be out at the Fall Harvest and Seafood Festival at Captree State Park.  The sun was shining, the temperature just right and the food outrageous.

Friday - 9/05/08

Tonight we went to the largest Italian Feast on Long Island.  There was great food, fun and music with dancing.  We finished the night off by going to a nearby Italian Cafe!!!   I'm looking forward to next year already!!

Saturday - 8/16/08

Tonight was a fantastic fun night with dinner at Zong's Shanghai in Bethpage and after watching the Bethpage fireworks which were absolutely magnificent...  probably the best we saw all Summer!!!

Saturday - 7/26/08

Mini Golf was alot of fun tonight, especially with the new ladies that came down.  After we went to Houlihans and really did talk about our "holes in one"!!!  By the way...  their potatoe soup is to die for!

Friday - 7/25/08

Tonight we had a nice size group, but more guys really should come out.  We've got all these really great ladies, some of our really great guys should come out, keep them company and have some fun also!  Tonight's major games were Scrabble and Beyond Baulderdash.

Saturday - 7/19/08

WOW - "Salute to America" Concert was fantastic and heart warming and the fireworks was the best I've seen in a long time.  Starting Over Singles salutes all the great Americans we have and have had protecting our Country, especially in times of War.

While we were there a couple who met in SOS, became friends and then started dating came over to say "Hi".  They've been together over two years now and I'd like to wish Mary and Bob much luck and love.  I knew they were meant for each other from the first day I saw Mary. Another guy who met someone in SOS and had a serious relationship for some time also came over to say hello.  Unfortunately their relationship only lasted a couple of years, but they are still friends and speak to each other on a regular basis.  That's why I tell people to make friends first.  You can never have too many friends!!!

Friday - 7/18/08

Tonight we had Italian food at LaFocaccia and listened to Street Corner Society, one of the best Oldies Groups around.  I'm sure Patty won't forget being sung to anytime soon!

Friday - 7/11/08

Those of you who missed the Davenport Printing Press tonight missed a fantastic night.  We had a 50/50 male/female mix and the food was supreme like usual, as was the music!

Tuesday - 7/08/08

If you're missing the summer concerts, you're missing the summer!  Tony Orlando looked and sounded as good as he did 40 years ago.  Of course I had a major crush on him then and still do!!!

Friday - 7/04/08

For those of you who chickend out today...  you missed a great time.  Those of us who believed everything would be okay rode out of the pouring rain in Hicksville and into sunny Oyster Bay and then Bayville where we had a fantastic dinner and then saw fireworks from the shores of Connecticut and some from Morgan's Island.

Tuesday - 7/02/08

First of all, I'm busting at the seams to tell the world how proud I am of my Granddaughter Samantha, who won the "Presidential Outstanding Academic Excellence Award" and received a pin and letter from President Bush along with other certificate awards from her school!!  To get the Presidential Award a child can't received any less than an A- in any subject for the last two years.  I'm also proud of Dylan getting a trophy for t-ball.

Today was also a little sad for me because it would have been my parent's 71st Anniversary.  I guess they were able to finally celebrate together again.  I miss them alot.

Dinner and Game Night was lots of fun with Scrabble being the game of the night.  Gail T. was our big winner of the evening with Effie coming in second place!

Our Event at Jackson Landing was outstanding.  I guess with a nice restaurant on the water and fantastic music by "Two For The Road" what could be bad....  oh, yes, the rain that started as soon as I got out of my car!!!

I'm also looking forward to all the Concerts we're going to see this summer.

Those of you who read this blog...  p l e a s e  sign the guest book.  It seems everyone is on the shy side.

Good night all and have a great tomorrow.

Friday - 6/20/08

Think I've got the idea now.  First of all I want to wish my Grandson Dylan a "Happy and especially healthy Birthday!"

Those of you who didn't join us tonight missed a real fun time.  As you know, we went to Viva Juans for dinner and karaoke.  Dinner was okay (I can still taste it!).  I'm not much into Mexican food, but the karaoke was loads of fun.  Naturally our own Norman sang his heart out as did Linda.  I have to say "yours truly" just wasn't into singing tonight, but Melody, Karin, Linda and myself all had the pleasure of playing the marrakas (don't think the spelling is correct - you know, the cute little Mexican balls with handles and pebbles in them - tee hee) to a couple of songs.  I don't think I'll ever get Effie, Daya or Saul up to sing, but you never know.

I hope more of you will be coming out tomorrow night, Saturday, for Miniature Golf or Sunday afternoon for Chinese food.  Give me a call and let me know!!!

Before I get carried away and write all night, I'll just say night for now!!!

Thursday - 6/19/08

Well...  Welcome to my new blog.  I'm really not sure what I'm supposed to be writing about so I'm going to read a couple of other blogs and I'll be blogging (hopefully) in the next couple of days!!!
